GEM Gloria Tang Deng Zhiqi I Am Gloria World Tour hits $424mil surpasses Madonna's Sticky & Sweet Tour; wiggles out of legal dispute with ex-record label hummingbird

Singer Gloria Tang Sze-wing (also known as GEM or Deng Zhiqi, 33) has been in a contractual dispute with her first record label hummingbird for 6 years and she says she did not receive any compensation for royalties to her songs that she herself wrote, composed and performed.

GEM Gloria Tang joined "Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong" at the age of 13 after writing her first song "Sleeping Beauty".

At 15, her mother signed her contract with her first record label hummingbird on her behalf, even though her mother did not understand English well.

Gloria Tang says that the rights to her songs were assigned to hummingbird and she was only paid performance fees in the contract; igniting her legal dispute with hummingbird for 6 years, which is still ongoing.

A new legal expert joined her team in July 2023 and highlighted that according to mainland chinese law on artistic creations section 42-2, an artist can re-record and publicly perform and broadcast a song without the explicit consent of her former record label.

Voila, in one stroke of the pen, Gloria Tang declares being reborn on 12 June 2025 again, as she starts to record all her hit songs one more time, this time owning the rights and royalties to her own songs.

As of writing, GEM Gloria Tang is continuing her "I Am Gloria World Tour" in China that has already grossed over USD 424 million across 93 shows and counting, making it the fourth highest-grossing tour by a female artist of all-time, surpassing Madonna's Sticky & Sweet Tour.
