SoftBank & OpenAI to introduce billions of AGI AI Agents to Industrial Japan via SB OpenAI JV

OpenAI and the SoftBank Group has announced a partnership to develop and market Advanced Enterprise AI called “Cristal intelligence.” Cristal intelligence will securely integrate the systems and data of individual enterprises in a way that is customized specifically for each company. SoftBank Group Corp. will spend $3 billion US annually to deploy OpenAI’s solutions across its group companies, making it the first company in the world to integrate Cristal intelligence at scale, as well as deploying existing tools like ChatGPT Enterprise to employees across the entire group. Furthermore, to accelerate the deployment of Cristal intelligence customized for Japan-based companies, OpenAI and the SoftBank Group agreed to establish a joint venture (JV) company called "SB OpenAI Japan." KDDI to offer Starlink's Direct to Cell connect with "au" mobile service

KDDI has announced a successful demonstration of its upcoming Starlink Direct to Cell service that enables ubiquitous access to texting on "au" smartphones. The demonstration, conducted in Kumejima, Okinawa Prefecture, confirmed that "au" smartphones, even when out of KDDI terrestrial service coverage, could directly connect with the Starlink Direct to Cell satellite, located at an altitude of several hundred kilometers, and send and receive SMS messages. Starlink satellites with Direct to Cell capabilities enable ubiquitous access to texting, calling, and browsing wherever you may be on land, lakes, or coastal waters. Leveraging Starlink Direct to Cell satellites and KDDI's national wireless spectrum nationwide, enabling connectivity in dead cell zones as long as there is a clear view of the sky. NEC Corp to delist NEC Networks & System Integration (NESIC, ticker 1973) and take it private

NEC Corporation has announced its plans to acquire NEC Networks & System Integration Corporation (NESIC, ticker: 1973) listed on the Prime Market section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. This is to create greater business synergy within the group. NESIC was established in November 1953 as Nippon Electric Installation Company, a spin-off from the sales division of NEC, with the aim of carrying out the design, construction and maintenance of telecommunications equipment. Subsequently, NESIC changed its corporate name to NEC System Integration & Construction, Ltd. in December 1980, and to its current corporate name, NEC Networks & System Integration Corporation, in October 2005. NESIC will be delisted and taken private after the acquisition.  

SoftBank's Large-scale “Sunglider” Solar HAPS Aircraft Succeeds in Stratospheric Flight Trial with US Department of Defense and AeroVironment

SoftBank Corp. (TOKYO: 9434, President & CEO: Junichi Miyakawa, “SoftBank”) today announced that its “Sunglider” — a large-scale solar-powered uncrewed aircraft system (“UAS”) designed for High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) stratospheric telecommunications — was utilized in a field trial conducted by AeroVironment Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV, “AeroVironment”) and the US Department of Defense (“DoD”) in New Mexico, USA, in early August 2024. During the trial Sunglider succeeded in achieving stratospheric flight. Sunglider is a large-scale UAS for HAPS. It is larger than other publicly announced HAPS UAS*, with a wingspan of 78m and the capability to carry payloads weighing up to 75kg. That means its ability to deliver stable, high-speed and robust high-capacity mobile connectivity is a key feature.
