Japan's base wage rises 2.8% in Jan 2025 to 295,505 yen for the 37th straight month

Japan's nominal base wage rises 2.8% in Jan 2025 to 295,505 yen ($2,000), the 37th straight month of increase. However, real wages fell 1.8% in Jan year on year due to a 4.7% increase in consumer prices.

Japan Q4 2024 GDP expands 2.8% in real terms; surprising on the upside by wide margin

Japan's Q4 2024 GDP expands 2.8% in real terms based on preliminary data, exceeding estimates of 0.7% by a wide margin. Q4 growth is driven by strong overseas exports and increased domestic capital investment in semiconductor manufacturing equipment. For the whole of 2024, real GDP expanded by 0.1%, a fourth consecutive year of growth.  

Japan's Q3 2024 GDP revised upwards from 0.9% to 1.2%

Japan's Q3 Gross Domestic Product from July to September 2024 expanded at an annualized 1.2%. This is an upward revision from the preliminary reading of 0.9% released in Nov and represents two back-to-back quarters of growth. The increase was mainly due to higher investments in housing and an increased in exports.   

Japan's Q3 2024 GDP grows 0.9% led by private consumption

Japan's Q3 2024 GDP expanded by an annualized 0.9% in real terms compared with the previous quarter, led by private consumption. Capital spending declined marginally by 0.2%.
