Bank of Japan (BOJ) likely to hold rates steady at March 18-19 policy meeting
BOJ Deputy Governor Uchida Shinichi noted on Wednesday that having another rate hike too soon may disrupt the trend of rising wages and consumer prices and more time is needed for monitoring the effects of the Jan rate hike to 0.5% on the broader economy and how core inflation will develop.
While another rate hike will be considered, polls suggest that there is a 60% probability of the BOJ holding rates steady at 0.5% for the upcoming policy meeting on Mar. 18 (Tues.), 19 (Wed.) 2025.
